The purpose of World Psoriasis Day on October 29 is a global event that looks to give an international, powerful voice to the 125 million people living with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Through awareness, education and other related programs, those living with psoriasis may find ways to love happier, healthier, and more comfortably through the latest treatment options. Psoriasis support groups perform activities all over the world to raise awareness about psoriasis and give people with psoriasis the attention and consideration they deserve. There are tricks that you can do to help reduce outbreaks and irritating conditions, but perhaps the most useful and effective tip is to drink more water and higher quality water with a drinking water system and bathe in softened water from a water softener.

According to the World Psoriasis Day website, it is “a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out incorrect signals that speed up the growth of skin cells. Oftentimes, you will have too many skin cells in one location, causing swelling, flaking and dryness. It can also be itchy, red, sore and very tender.” There is also a crippling form of arthritis, called psoriatic arthritis. Nearly three percent of the world’s population endure the symptoms of psoriasis. Not only do they have to deal with constant pain from cracking and bleeding skin, but they also live with the humiliation of continuous shedding of scaly skin which can often be found on clothes or their seats. What would be worse – living with the condition itself or living with the fact that there is limited treatment and no cure?

Using filtered or softened water has been shown to also reduce the effects. Keeping your skin hydrated and contaminant-free will instantly remove toxins and also keep the skin from drying out as much. Chlorine is a chemical that may cause irritation and can further dry out the already over-dry skin that normally accompanies psoriasis. Chlorine, too, can be removed by a water filter. With a water softener, hard minerals like calcium and magnesium are effectively removed. These minerals often irritate the psoriasis and the skin. Our water treatment systems support you and give your condition the attention it deserves. Treating your drinking water and that which you shower or bath in can help you feel better. A whole-house water system  has multiple benefits – which is most important to you?
